PBS News Hour Interview with Safely Back Home Paul Jetter explains how the program began with his father who had Dementia.

Rutherford, NJ, Police Chief John Russo talks about the Safely Back Home Program with Founder, Paul Jetter

Our Mission

To provide an additional layer of protection for children and adults who wander due to Autism, Alzheimer’s and other cognitive challenges. Our goal is to provide parents and caregivers with additional peace of mind

Program Description

Safely Back Home’s program was developed in response to a need to provide assistance to individuals with Autism, Alzheimer’s and other cognitive challenges who are incapable of providing identifying information in situations where they become lost. The imprinted garment alerts the public and police that the individual may need more assistance than they initially realize.

The patent-pending process uses “privacy-protected” ID information imprinted on personal garments to be conveyed to an emergency call center, secure database and rescue operation.

#HipNJ’s Lisa Marie Latino sat down with Paul Jetter, founder of Safely Back Home, in the #HipNJ studio. Paul and Lisa discussed the non-profit Safely Back Home program and how it is actively working to help families around Bergen County.

our_partner_iconHow the Safely Back Home Program Works

border

Paul Jetter is the creator and founder of Safely Back Home™, providing additional peace of mind to families and caregivers of people who wander.

Paul’s passion started through his own experience with his father, who had dementia, and whose family became his father’s caregivers. Paul created the patent-pending process that uses ID information imprinted on the personal garments to be conveyed to an emergency call center, secure database and rescue operation

Safely Back Home ID Decal Badge

The Safely Back Home ID Decals can be easily hand ironed at home onto clothing the person enjoys wearing. The decals are extremely soft on the clothing and are wash proof. The decals can also be heat pressed onto clothing (also hats, back packs, etc.)

Safely Back Home ID Decal

HOPATCONG – Name of town where the individual is enrolled in the Safely Back Home Program

  • A recent photo of the individual
  • The parents’/Caregivers’ contact information
  • Crucial medical information: Medical conditions (ex. Diabetes, Epilepsy, Severe allergies); required medications
  • Locations where the individual is likely to wander, to seek.
  • What to say to the wandering individual to keep them calm during the rescue.

Safely Back Home Enrollment Form

Thank you for taking the initiative to be a part of the Safely Back Home Program

Safely Back Home™ is an innovative program that provides additional peace of mind to families and caregivers of people who wander. The Safely Back Home™ patent-pending process uses ID information imprinted on personal garments to help the public and the police assist an individual who has become lost.

The Safely Back Home™ Program was developed in response to a need to provide assistance to individuals who are incapable of providing identifying information in situations where they become lost.

When an individual who wanders and appears lost is wearing a Safely Back Home™ imprinted garment, the concerned person who notices them can quickly contact HPD with location details and a rescue ensues.

The Safely Back Home™ program enables police and first responders to understand how to communicate effectively with your family member, allowing your family member to remain calm during their rescue.

Families/Caregivers provide medical and personal information about the family member. All information remains confidential and privacy protected. Wherever your family member is wandering (in NJ/USA) – police departments are able to electronically share this information in coordinating the rescue.
